SacDoc: community mental health
...reimagined
it's time to take back our health care
For years, Sacramento County has administered all the money coming from the Federal and state governments intended to provide our mental health care for our community. They call it the "mental health carve out."
After years of chronically underfunding mental health programs, the County seems to have given up on us. They're all but closing the RSTs, and referring the displaced thousands to programs staffed and funded for only a few hundred patients.
It's time to end the inhumanity of tying health care services to capricious government budgets. We can take back our health care with a community-founded, community owned, community run mental health program.
SacDoc is an answer to Sacramento County's community mental health crisis
Community mental health in Sacramento County is broken. I have been implementing SacDoc for nearly a decade in an effort to assist consumers of mental health services (I'm one) and physicians (I'm one of those, too) who are striving to continue to provide care to mental health patients in a broken, chronically underfunded system. I had planned to expand it slowly over the next few years, but the current economic crisis is destroying the very programs SacDoc was designed to help.
The time for an orderly roll-out has passed us by. Only revolutionary, decisive steps can save us from the nightmare of turning our backs on thousands of our neighbors, pushing them into emergency rooms and jails.
